What is a housing co-op?

• Housing co‑ops provide at-cost housing for their members.

• They are controlled by members who have a vote in decisions. There is no outside landlord.

  • Members own the co-op, the co-op owns the housing​

• Each housing co‑op is a legal association of members, incorporated as a co‑operative.

• Housing co‑ops are guided by international co‑operative principles, adapted for housing co‑ops.

  • Members work together to create a viable business and community

• Housing co‑ops provide security of tenure, not equity

What does the co-op expect from you?

• Pay your housing charges + utilities on time

• Follow the co-op’s rules and policies

• Keep your unit in good condition

• Be a good neighbour

• Get involved in the co-op

  • Attend meetings x 2 per year​

  • Run for the Board of Directors

  • Attend training opportunities

  • Volunteer on a committee

• Long term occupancy

How do I apply?

• Attend an Orientation meeting (held on-site the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7pm sharp) to receive an application

• Submit your completed application to the office along with the $35 non-refundable fee

• You will be contacted by the Co-op to arrange an interview with the Membership Committee

• Applications are processed on a first come first serve basis & can take 6-8 weeks to process

What about maintenance?

• Our Unit Maintenance Policy outlines what items are your responsibility & which are the Co-op's

• Any excessive use or abuse will be charged back to the Member

• Work orders are submitted to  the Co-op's management company, New Life Management Services Inc.
